This is our fourth Olympics using software products from MOG, and our first time using some of their hardware. They have always been very quick to adapt to our every changing digital media workflows, and have always done so with excellent reliability.
mxfSPEEDRAIL solved our overflow recording issues economically and efficiently. The ease of integration along with the continued development of software makes this an easily justifiable purchase. mxfSPEEDRAIL allows us additional channels of recording capabilities in times when there are just too many events occurring at the same time. The system integrates with our Avid system seamlessly. mxfSPEEDRAIL writes directly into our Avid ISIS storage and checks the asset into Interplay for immediate use by our editing systems. The support from the company on this product is excellent, although the system hasn’t needed much since we installed it. I continue to be impressed with the system, its ease of use and its continual development.
mxfSPEEDRAIL has been a great help when it comes to digitizing content. The flexibility of the product, the ability to control it from any workstation using its web interface with video preview makes it a perfect tool to digitize content and keep productivity high by avoiding the need to move between workstations.
The greatest benefit mxfSPEEDRAIL has brought to our workflow is the ability to run media transcoding as a parallel rather than a linear process. Before mxfSPEEDRAIL we were limited to ingesting footage only at night when the editors were not using the Avid bays. mxfSPEEDRAIL eliminates this limitation allowing us to ingest/transcode footage around the clock. In addition, the AE’s are more productive because they can continue working while Speedrail processes footage rather than sitting around waiting for their Avid’s to finish transcoding.
In answer to your question, I’m working on integrating the system more and more into my workflow, and it has been a real help to have it for some of our recent large projects that would’ve taken much longer in the Avid and also with some cameras that are not Avid-compatible at all (like the X-AVCS format, etc., which need to be converted and then pulled through Avid/Mog, but Mog does it 3-4 times faster, which is a huge help.
We have been using MOG as our ingest solution from the Channel Launch itself. However I have involved in the capacity of Technical Advisor to many other channels previously and this is one of the most efficient Ingest solution I have experienced. Not just the Ingest team, but the technical team is also high praise for MOG’s simple efficiency.
The dependency on the MOG ingest is 100% as our premium and time-critical ingest is relying on this workflow. The solution is quite easy and seamless to integrate while integrated into our production and workflow.
