The feeling varies, some may feel like “Oh yeah! Going to Vegas!”, others may feel like “Oh Well…it’s Vegas all over again…”. Anyway, the focus is to have an excellent show and create great business opportunities.
The show starts in less than 2 weeks which means that is time to confirm flights, hotels, registration badge at the event, monorail or shuttle tickets… Don’t get tired already. We collected some tips for a smooth trip to Las Vegas.
If you, like us, need to cross the ocean to get to Vegas, book your flights wisely. Avoid limited time to change flights over busy airports and keep in mind that entering the US means you need to spend some time in lines to pass through security.
By now, your reservations are probably made, but if you kept it to last minute, check out NAB Show website. Maybe you can benefit from their available discounts in AA, Delta, and United.
Ensure your hotel price includes all the taxes and resort fees. When booking online, you will probably get the values without these fees and you may end up having some surprises when checking out. Almost all hotels in Vegas charge an extra resort fee.
When booking, you can also take a look at the Monorail Station Guide to ensure that you choose a location nearby that allows you to easily access the LVCC.
Don’t forget to register, to get your exhibits pass for the show. You can benefit from a discount by using code LV8485.
If you want to impress your business partners and customers with a fancy dinner, schedule your places in advance. You can visit: Tripadvisor and check for the best places. Chances are that the best ones will get crowded over this period, so do it asap!
You are in the arid weather of Vegas, so there are some small items that can be a big help: sun protector; lip balsam and nasal spray. Trust us, having this around will make your life easier.
Bring cash to avoid ATM taxes. If you’re using a credit card, make sure you have an alternative. In some places, for some random reasons, they do not work. We have been using one virtual card that does not charge a single tax when abroad in the US and allow us to slip bills among the team. It is a great help.
Of course, you have Uber and Lyft or even taxi. But you also have the Las Vegas monorail which runs up the back of the Las Vegas strip and stops at the conference center. And take advantage of the free shuttle bus provided by NAB, which offers daily journeys to the convention center as well as the airport.
Plan your “must see list” in the right order, so you won’t go going around floor 1, and now floor 2, oops, floor 1 again. Don’t waste your time. Learn the floor plan map and use the myNABSHOW application to help you.
Take a look at the Eventbrite to find out some of the most exciting events taking place around NAB.
At the event, take comfy and fresh shoes (it’s hot in Vegas) and a comfortable bag if you like to keep collateral. Sometimes can be a little chilly, so just for precaution, take a light jacket or a sweatshirt. Be sure to include some protein bars and fruit for snacks, and of course water to keep you hydrated.
Make sure you take your business cards, and a phone charger (if you are an exhibitor, don’t forget your company shirts!)
You will probably take notes. So take a small notebook and a pen. If you prefer to write in your phone/tablet/iPad download 1 or 2 note apps.
Before, during and after the show, you will probably spend a lot of time waiting in queues. Checking in your hotel, getting lunch or waiting on taxis. Avoid peak times at all costs.
Keep up with the latest news and events. Even though you planned everything till the last minute, something is going to be different from your initial plans. Don’t stress out!
The best way to know what’s going on is to follow NABSHOW social media for announcements and news, following the #nabshow. You can also use the NABSHOW app, where you can find all the information and also the My Show Planner too.
You are in Vegas, so try to have fun. If you have free time prior or after business to walk around you can always visit interesting spots like Red Rock Canyon, the Hoover Dam, explore the casinos or visit the Fashion Outlets for some shopping.
If you are just like us and after a few days you start missing the silence and quietness…May the force be with you!
That’s all folks. Go ahead and share your tips with us.
